Fly me to the moon and let me play among the stars…”
It’s a big day for Seeds of Happiness; we are LAUNCHING our new website! It is new and improved and we are very excited for everyone to go for a ride. It’s interactive, informational and very easy to use on the go. Check out how the Smiles are made, who makes them and who buys them.
AND, we will be updating it pretty much daily with the creative, and also silly stuff which goes on at the Smile Factory. So climb aboard, you’re in for a very fun ride!
The original ‘smiley’ was created by commercial artist Harvey Ball in 1963. Concerned about the commercialization of the iconic graphic, Harvey established Smile Day, which encourages you to participate in acts of kindness and to smile and make others smile. Since that first World Smile Day® in 1999, it continues every year in Smiley’s hometown of Worcester, MA and around the world.

National Smile Week is celebrated during the second week of August and was established to promote dental health and the maintenance of a brilliant smile. But smiling has a positive effect on more than just your looks. It can be therapeutic and can also create a friendlier environment wherever you may be.
What’s even better is that smiling is contagious, the more you smile, the more others will smile with you!
A smile is the most universally recognized social expression. Smiles translate into every culture, language and social context and can be recognized up to 300′ away.
So make sure to smile today, smile tomorrow and smile every day…turn smiling into a daily habit!
110 Years ago today, JULY 23, 1904, a tasty treat was invented in our town:
St. Louis, Missouri, Home of the First Ice Cream Cone Do you love ice cream? How about an ice cream cone? Did you know that the first cone was introduced at the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904?
Charles E. Minches of St. Louis, Missouri fills a pastry cone with two scoops of ice cream, and the ice cream cone is invented.
The story goes that when the ice cream vendor ran out of paper cups and spoons, he put the ice cream in a rolled up waffle that the man in the next booth was selling — and an invention was born — by accident!
So you can thank Chuck for giving us one of American’s favorite desserts…one scoop or two?!? 🙂
Friday, June 20, 2014 = Take Your Dog to Work Day A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your life, things won’t be too bad. – Robert Wagner
This is a serious holiday for “Man’s Best Friend”. It is sponsored by Pet Sitters International. The day is to encourage employers to experience the fun and relaxation which comes with allowing pets in the workplace! And in addition, to encourage pet adoption; there are LOTS of great dogs out there who need forever homes. 🙂
We would like to see YOUR dogs in YOUR workplace! We are having a drawing and the prize is a “Happy Dog” Big Seed of Happiness! Just e-mail a photo of you and your dog at your workplace. OR if you do not have a job which allows Take Your Dog to Work Day, just send us a photo of you and your dog. OR, even if you just WISH you had a dog and want to enter, send us your e-mail, too…everybody can play!
Deadline for entry is Monday, June 23, 2014 12:00 p.m. CDT. A winner will be drawn and announced by the end of the week. Good luck, thanks for playing and WOOF!
My fashion philosophy is, if you’re not covered in dog hair, your life is empty. – Elayne Boosler
What to get Dad for Father’s Day? Hmmmmm? The traditional tie doesn’t really work anymore with our increasingly casual society. But a Smile…yeah! As Mark Borella, aka The Seeds of Happiness Guy always says: “You can’t go wrong with a Smile.”
* Maybe he is a baseball fan: How about a Big Baseball Seed of Happiness?
* He can always use a baseball cap, and we guarantee that when he opens this gift he will be smiling! (p.s. AND they are on sale right now; 20% off!)
* Your dad can start his day with a Smile in his coffee mug. * Or, we have two different sizes of tumblers to hold his hot AND cold beverages. So, there are lots of fun choices for your dad…let the shopping begin!
Memorial Day is a holiday which typically marks the beginning of summer vacation…bbq, floatrips, picnics, and many more fun and relaxing outdoor activities. It’s a federal holiday, most people are off work for a three-day weekend…yea!
But, we should not forget the reason we have a day off work and are out having fun. Memorial Day is a day of remembering those courageous men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials to honor those who made the greatest sacrifice while serving our country. To those men and women, we salute you.

May 5-9, 2014 is Teacher Appreciation Week.
The first full week in May honors those hard working, patient and understanding people whom we entrust our children to. Teachers mold our kids in a positive direction; from Kindergarten through college, they are an important part of our children’s lives.
So let’s give ’em their due. If you happen to be a teacher reading this, we personally offer our thanks! And, to show our gratitude, an apple for the teacher is always appreciated. Check out our Seeds of Happiness Apples, we have two sizes for your favorite teachers!
